Adansonia digitata develops a swollen, bottle-like trunk built for water storage, topped in growth season by fresh green leaves divided into 5–7 leaflets. In pots it stays far smaller than the giant wild tree, but still becomes a strong indoor specimen over time, often around 1–2 m after many years.
Give it maximum sun or strong grow lights, a very fast-draining mineral mix, and deep watering only while it is actively growing. During dormancy the plant may shed leaves and should be kept much drier. Warmth is essential, with little tolerance for cold below 10 °C, and its slow rhythm means patience matters far more than frequent feeding or oversized containers. Seed is the usual propagation route, and a modest pot helps the caudex stay proportionate instead of sitting in cold wet soil.
