Agave filifera forms a compact, stemless rosette of dark green leaves edged with curling white threads, and those filamentous margins are what make it immediately recognisable. Mature plants usually stay around 60 cm tall and wide, so the species fits easily into bright indoor collections without needing much floor space.
It wants strong sun, dry air, and a very free-draining mineral mix, with water only after the pot has dried completely. Overwatering, not drought, is the common cause of decline. Sharp tips and occasional sap irritation mean handling still needs care, and mature rosettes can eventually produce offsets. Even when small, though, the white filaments give it enough fine detail to reward close placement near eye level. Offsets become more common with age.
