Agave montana builds a dense, solitary dome of upright mountain-green leaves marked by strong bud imprints, cinnamon-red teeth, and a sharp terminal spine, so even younger plants already look sculptural and established. Indoors it can still become substantial, often around 90–120 cm tall and 120–150 cm wide with time, but it keeps a self-contained rosette rather than offsetting into a clump.
Use the brightest position you have, a sharply draining mineral-heavy mix, and deep watering only after full drying. Its high-elevation Mexican origin explains why it tolerates cooler conditions better than many agaves, though cold and wet together are still a bad combination. Seed is the normal propagation route, and the spined leaves and sap make careful placement essential around pets, children, and walkways.
