Alocasia princeps 'Purple Cloak' stands upright on mottled petioles and shows two very different faces: glossy green above, dark purple beneath. The elongated, hastate leaves keep a vertical profile that usually reaches about 80–120 cm indoors without spreading as widely as many broad-bladed Alocasias.
Warmth, high humidity, and bright filtered light help maintain clean foliage, while a chunky mix with bark, perlite, and organic matter keeps roots aerated. Water when the upper layer has started to dry, not when the pot is still heavy. Limestone-derived habitats in Borneo help explain why this plant likes stable moisture and airflow but quickly declines in dense, stagnant compost or cold drafts. Rhizome division during repotting is the usual propagation method.
