Alocasia âRegal Shieldsâ combines broad shield-like leaves with a deep green to nearly black upper surface and burgundy undersides, so it reads rich and imposing without needing excessive height. Bred from Alocasia odora and reginula âBlack Velvetâ, it carries more substance and ease than many jewel Alocasias while still offering darker colour and strong venation. Indoors it can reach roughly 30â120 cm tall depending on age and conditions, forming a self-supporting clump on sturdy petioles.
Bright indirect light keeps the leaves broad and well coloured, while a coarse aroid mix and a measured watering rhythm prevent the rhizome from sitting cold and wet.
It suits growers who want one dramatic hybrid that remains manageable and keeps its authority even indoors.
