Alpinia zerumbet variegata produces tall, cane-like stems lined with broad leaves striped in bright green and creamy yellow, giving the plant a strong vertical presence without looking rigid. In containers it stays more manageable than outdoor specimens, but it still forms generous clumps that suit bright rooms, conservatories, or sheltered warm-season patios.
Keep the substrate evenly moist but not soggy, use a rich mix with good drainage, and provide warmth between about 18–30°C with humidity around 50–70% for best foliage quality. Mature plants may produce pendant, shell-like flowers in warm conditions, though indoors the leaves remain the main feature.
Rhizome division is the usual way to propagate it, and its non-toxic nature makes it easier to place around pets and people.
