Aphelandra squarrosa, zebra plant, remains one of the easiest ways to add strong leaf pattern to an indoor setup, thanks to broad glossy foliage striped with clean white veins that hold their contrast all year. It stays compact enough for shelves and side tables, yet never disappears visually because the leaf pattern does the work even when the plant is not in bloom.
Under good light and humidity it can also produce yellow flower bracts, but honestly the foliage already earns the space.
If you want something tropical, structured, and graphic without moving into collector-only territory, this is still one of the best options.
