Begonia ferox is known for large green leaves covered in dark, hard bullae that slowly rise from the surface, turning each mature blade into something fierce and architectural. The plant grows from rhizomes and stays relatively compact, but the leaf texture is so pronounced that it still commands attention in cabinets and other high-humidity displays.
Consistent moisture in a very airy, organic substrate helps the roots stay active, while bright shade and cool to moderate temperatures support good bullation without overheating the foliage. High humidity is essential, yet direct wetting of the leaves is less helpful than clean ambient moisture and airflow, because trapped water can lead to damage. Growth is not fast, and the bullae take time to develop fully, so this is a species for growers who value progressive change and texture more than quick bulk.
