Begonia melanobullata is all about surface structure, with thick hairy leaves carrying dark conical bullae that make the plant look almost armored. In strong backlight the foliage can flash red and yellow through the green, which adds another layer of interest beyond the heavy texture and dark projections.
It is a thirsty species in active growth, but also one that rots quickly if the substrate loses air, so the safest approach is a very open organic mix kept just moist rather than wet. Bright shade, high humidity, and strong airflow help the leaves develop well without fungal damage, and a shallow pot suits the rhizomatous habit better than a deep one. This is not a forgiving windowsill begonia; it performs best where warmth and humidity stay steady enough for the bullae and hairs to develop without stress.
