Calathea & Maranta Potting Mix

Use this mix when prayer plants struggle in standard compost – crisped edges from dry pockets, drooping after watering or repeated root problems.

• When to repot: repot when roots fill the pot, when soil drains poorly or when plants react badly even with careful watering.
• Preparing the plant: gently remove the plant from its pot and loosen as much old compost as you can without tearing healthy roots.
• Rinsing roots: rinse under lukewarm water to remove compacted soil and make it easier for roots to move into the new mix.
• Pot choice: use a pot with drainage holes; avoid oversized containers so the mix does not stay wet for days in the centre.
• Planting: add a base layer of Calathea & Maranta Potting Mix, position the plant so the root crown sits just below the rim and backfill around the roots, lightly firming for stability without compressing the mix.
• First watering: water thoroughly to settle the substrate, then allow the surface to dry slightly before watering again.
• Ongoing watering: keep the mix lightly moist – never dust-dry, never swampy. Adjust frequency based on room temperature, light and pot size.
• Humidity & environment: higher ambient humidity and stable warmth reduce brown edges; grouping plants or using a humidifier is usually more effective than heavy daily misting.
