Disocactus crenatus 'Beavertail' is an epiphytic cactus with broad flat stems and strongly notched margins that give each segment a paddle-like outline. Indoors the arching stems can approach 90 cm and spread wide, so the plant looks best in hanging or elevated containers where the segments can drape.
Although it is a cactus, it behaves more like a forest epiphyte than a desert plant, preferring bright filtered light, regular watering after the surface has dried, and a loose mix of bark, coir, and perlite that stays airy around the roots. Temperatures of about 18–26 °C and humidity around 50–70% suit it, and monthly feeding can support stronger stems. Mature plants may produce very large fragrant white flowers that open at night after a slightly drier, cooler rest in winter.
