Espostoa senilis develops into a branching Andean columnar cactus wrapped in long silvery hair, giving mature stems an unmistakable “old man” look that is more dramatic than many single-stem woolly species. The dense hair, hidden spines, and eventual cephalium make Espostoa senilis feel like a long-term collector’s cactus rather than a quick decorative purchase.
It wants the usual essentials of strong light, dry air, lean mineral soil, and careful winter restraint with water, but rewards patience with increasingly sculptural branching over time. If you want a woolly cactus that grows into a real multi-stemmed presence rather than staying as one straight pole, this species is especially satisfying.
