Ficus carica is a deciduous fig grown for its bold, deeply lobed leaves and its ability to produce edible fruit in containers when given enough sun. Indoors it usually reaches about 1–3 m, forming a small tree or large shrub with a broad, structured canopy and a clear winter rest period.
Give it 6–8 hours of strong light, water deeply once roughly the top half of the substrate has dried, and use a loamy, fast-draining mix in a wide, stable pot.
Growth slows or leaves may drop during dormancy, which is normal for this species. Sap can irritate skin and the plant is mildly toxic if eaten, but with steady light, restrained winter watering, and pruning after rest, it can remain productive and long-lived for decades in a container with a cool seasonal pause.
