Hoya carnosa 'Mauna Loa' is the variegated rope form, with thick curled leaves twisted into dense chains and marked by pale centres surrounded by darker green margins. It grows slowly, but that is part of the appeal, because even a modest plant already looks sculptural and holds its shape beautifully in a hanging planter or on a high shelf. Over time it can mature into a showpiece with fragrant flowers, but the foliage alone is enough to justify the space if you like twisted, three-dimensional growth.
Good light, a coarse breathable mix, moderate humidity, and allowing the roots to dry slightly between waterings are what keep the vines firm, the variegation clear, and the tightly packed leaves free from rot.
