Hypoestes phyllostachya 'Red' brings strong colour into a compact footprint, with green leaves heavily marked in saturated red and a tidy habit that fits easily on tabletops, windowsills, or in terrarium-style displays. This Madagascar understory species usually reaches about 35–40 cm indoors and holds its best colour in bright, indirect light with stable warmth and moderate to high humidity.
Let roughly the top 40% of the mix dry before watering, keep the substrate airy and well drained, and pinch growth regularly to prevent legginess and encourage density. It works especially well as a bright accent beside greener foliage plants.
It is generally regarded as non-toxic, though not edible, and occasional small flowers are usually secondary to the bold foliage.
