Kaempferia elegans 'Fanciful Peacock Shazam' stays low and clumping, with broad dark green leaves patterned in silvery markings that give the surface a peacock-feather effect even when the plant is only 15–20 cm tall. During the growing season it may also produce short-lived lavender flowers close to the soil, but the foliage is the main reason to grow it.
It performs best in bright, indirect light or light shade, consistently moist but well-draining substrate, temperatures around 18–27 °C, and humidity above about 60%.
When it enters dormancy, the leaves naturally die back, and watering should be reduced until new growth returns. Division of the rhizomes is the usual way to propagate it, and its small scale makes it especially useful in terrariums or low bowls.
