Leucostele terscheckii is a columnar cactus capable of developing a thick trunk and branching arms that give it the scale of a small desert tree rather than a tabletop specimen. Even while young it shows the strong ribbing and stout spines that make the species so recognizable, and in time mature plants can bear large white night-blooming flowers.
Indoors or in containers, success depends on giving it the brightest possible light, a very mineral, fast-draining substrate, and a dry winter rest with only minimal water. Heat is rarely a problem, but low light is: weak conditions lead quickly to stretched, unstable growth that never develops the proper form.
This is a cactus for growers planning ahead, with enough room for a plant that becomes increasingly architectural over the years.
