Pachycereus marginatus at a glance:
Pachycereus marginatus grows as a row of upright ribbed columns with evenly spaced areoles and short spines, creating a strong architectural cactus silhouette even when the plant is young. In the ground it can become a living fence, but in containers it remains slower and more manageable while still giving a tall vertical look over time. Stems are usually 10–15 cm thick, branch from the base or higher up with age, and can produce pink-green flowers and dry reddish fruit on mature outdoor plants.
Full sun, very dry air, and a sharply draining mineral substrate are essential, along with deep watering only after the whole root zone has dried. Growth is moderate in warmth and strong light, but overwatering is the main failure point. Spines mean it should be placed away from pets and children.
