Philodendron ilsemanii is a historic horticultural name used for a rare variegated climbing philodendron with irregular cream and white marbling over deep green cordate leaves. The exact origin is still unresolved, but in cultivation the plant behaves like a true scandent aroid, climbing best when attached firmly to a moss or fibre pole. Patterning is chimeric, so each node carries its own balance of green and pale tissue, and no two leaves look exactly alike.
Bright, indirect light supports stronger growth without burning the pale sectors, while watering after the top 2–3 cm of substrate has dried helps keep the roots active without stagnation. It prefers 18–27 °C, humidity from 55–70%, and an airy bark-and-coir mix.
Like other philodendrons, it contains calcium oxalate and should not be chewed by pets or children.
