Philodendron mayoi is a Brazilian climbing species with deeply divided leaves that give a palm-like or umbrella-like effect without leaving the philodendron growth style behind. Red to maroon petioles add extra colour contrast, and the plant stays more graceful and airy than self-heading split-leaf hybrids. It climbs moderately and looks best on a moss pole, where the leaves lengthen and the divisions become more convincing.
Bright, indirect light keeps the form strongest, while watering after the top 10–15% of substrate has dried prevents the soggy root conditions that lead to yellowing and softness. It prefers temperatures around 20–27 °C, humidity above about 60%, and a loose mix with bark, coir, and perlite.
Like other philodendrons, it contains calcium oxalate and should be placed where pets and children cannot chew it.
