Pilea pubescens 'Silver Tree' is a compact, creeping foliage plant with softly quilted dark green leaves marked by a bright silver stripe through the centre. The pattern is clean and strongly defined, so even a small plant stands out in a terrarium, on a narrow shelf, or in a grouped display at eye level. It usually stays around 20–30 cm tall and wide, spreading more as a low mound than as a true trailer.
Bright, indirect light keeps the silver stripe clearer, while direct sun can bleach the leaf surface and very dry air can lead to brown tips. Water when the upper part of the substrate dries, use a peat-free airy mix with perlite and compost, and pinch occasionally for denser growth.
Stem cuttings root quickly, and the non-toxic foliage makes it a practical choice for homes with pets.
