Piper sp. Sumatera 'Pink Veins' is an unresolved Indonesian trade form grown for dark foliage crossed by vivid pink veins that stand out immediately against the almost black leaf surface. The leaves are leathery, ovate-lanceolate, and strongly veined, giving the plant more graphic impact than most other ornamental Piper species. It behaves as a scandent vine and can either trail or climb depending on support, but the main value is the foliage contrast rather than length.
Bright, indirect light helps the pink remain saturated, while high humidity and consistent moisture keep the leaf edges from browning. Use a loose, oxygen-rich substrate with bark, coir, and perlite, water once the upper layer begins to dry slightly, and keep temperatures warm and stable.
This is a rare collector’s vine for growers who want strong colour rather than subtle shimmer.
