Rhipsalis pilocarpa stands out among epiphytic cacti for its slender cylindrical stems, fine bristly covering, fragrant white flowers, and red hairy fruits. The stems begin more upright and then become pendulous with age, making the plant equally attractive in elevated pots or hanging displays. Its texture is softer than a spiny cactus but more tactile than many smooth-stemmed Rhipsalis, which gives it extra character even out of flower.
Bright filtered light, moderate humidity, and a loose epiphytic mix keep it in good condition. For collectors who enjoy seasonally expressive plants with both interesting stems and decorative fruit, pilocarpa offers more than just a green cascade.
