Strelitzia reginae is the classic bird of paradise, combining stiff, upright leaves with the long-term potential for orange and blue flowers that resemble a bird’s head in flight. Indoors, it is primarily valued for foliage and structure, but mature plants in strong light can sometimes bloom, which adds to the appeal. Compared with Strelitzia nicolai it stays smaller and feels more contained, making it better suited to brighter rooms where you want a statement plant without the same massive spread.
It prefers strong light, evenly watered but draining soil, and patience, as it is a slow, steady grower. A very good choice for those who want tropical form with the possibility of iconic flowers later on.
