Tillandsia bulbosa has a swollen base made of overlapping leaf sheaths and twisting tubular leaves that give the plant its animated, tentacle-like form.
It comes from wetter tropical habitats than many very silver xeric air plants, so it appreciates regular thorough watering, but the base must dry quickly afterwards because trapped moisture there is the main cause of rot. Bright filtered light, strong airflow, and open displays suit it better than tight holders, packed moss, or narrow glass containers that slow drying.
After soaking or rinsing, the plant should be shaken out well and dried upside down or angled downward, which keeps water from sitting deep inside the inflated base where damage often starts unnoticed. Fast drying matters more than display style.
