Tillandsia caput-medusae is one of the most recognisable air plants, with a vase-like base and thick silvered leaves that twist outward like tentacles. The plant stores some moisture in its swollen lower body, but that does not mean it should stay dry indefinitely; instead, it wants proper soaking or rinsing followed by quick drying and strong airflow around the base.
Bright indirect light and open displays on cork, wood, shells, or wire frames suit it far better than enclosed containers where water lingers.
Mature plants can colour up before flowering and later produce pups, so it is a good long-term choice for growers who want an air plant that feels sculptural, durable, and more animated than a standard compact rosette. Fast drying matters more than display style.
