How to use worm castings

As a soil amendment

• Mix into potting soil to improve nutrient availability and support root development.
• Typical ratios: up to about 10 % of the mix for cacti and succulents; around 1:2 worm castings to soil for young and sensitive plants; roughly 1:3–1:4 for most houseplants; up to 1:1 for very hungry plants (adjust watering accordingly).

Worm casting “tea”

• Add a few spoonfuls of worm castings to lukewarm water, let it steep for a few hours and then use as a nutrient-rich liquid feed.

Refreshing nutrients in existing pots

• Worm castings can remain active in soil for up to roughly six months.
• To refresh an older pot, remove about 20 % of the top layer and replace it with worm castings, then water to wash nutrients down towards the roots.

How worm castings are made

Worm castings are produced by earthworms that process organic material such as kitchen scraps and green waste. Their activity enriches the end product with stable organic matter, nutrients and beneficial micro-organisms.
