Xiquexique gounellei subsp. gounellei forms upright, basally branching columns that build into dense candelabra-like clumps of bluish to grey-green stems with short white spines and prominent tubercles. Even in containers it develops a rugged silhouette, though growth remains slow and manageable for years compared with many faster columnar cacti.
Full sun or the brightest possible indoor position is essential, along with a very mineral, fast-draining cactus mix and deep but infrequent watering in active growth. Let the substrate dry fully between waterings and keep it much drier in winter, since cold, damp roots are the main threat to long-term health.
