Alocasia reginula 'Black Velvet Gold' stays compact at roughly 25–35 cm, but its dark, velvety leaves make it feel far richer than its size suggests. Each thick blade shows unpredictable golden-yellow mottling over an almost black surface, held in a tight rosette on short, sturdy petioles.
It suits bright indirect light, warm temperatures, and a sharply draining mix that dries slightly near the top before the next watering. High humidity supports clean growth, while heavy watering quickly causes trouble in its tuberous roots. Native reginula comes from limestone-rich forests in Borneo, which explains why this cultivar responds best to airy substrate, stable warmth, and careful moisture rather than constant wetness. Pale sectors can mark easily if humidity swings or roots stay cold.
