Agave tequilana sends long, blue-grey blades from a tight central core, creating the instantly recognisable silhouette associated with blue agave fields in western Mexico. In a pot it remains smaller than field-grown plants, but indoors it can still reach roughly 1–1.5 m tall and wide with enough light and time, so it functions best as a bright-room statement plant.
The leaf surface has a matte, waxy finish that helps the colour hold even in strong light, and the plant’s drought adaptation means it wants deep watering followed by complete drying, not frequent sips. Use a sharply draining succulent mix with extra mineral material and keep it warm, airy, and away from cold wet conditions. It is generally solitary or only sparsely offsetting, and like other agaves it flowers once at maturity. Leaf tips, marginal spines, and sap all deserve respect, especially in tighter interiors.
