What is a rosette houseplant?

A rosette plant grows its leaves from a central point or a very short stem, creating a circular or layered shape instead of a long vine or upright branching stem. That is why rosette plants often look neat, symmetrical, and self-contained.

Do all rosette plants get watered into the centre?

No. That only applies to tank bromeliads that naturally hold water in a central cup. Many other rosette plants, including African violets and most succulent rosettes, are better kept with water away from the crown rather than sitting in it.

Why are the outer leaves on my rosette plant dying off?

Often, that is normal ageing. Rosette plants push new growth from the centre, so the oldest leaves are the outer ones. It becomes more of a concern when the centre itself starts to soften, darken, or stop producing healthy new growth.

Can rosette plants make offsets?

Many do. Offsets, pups, or additional crowns are common in several rosette-forming groups, which is one reason these plants often become fuller over time or can be divided later.

Why is the centre of my rosette turning soft or black?

That usually points to crown rot or crown damage rather than normal ageing. Water trapped where it should not sit, cold wet conditions, or a mix that stays soggy for too long can all damage the growing point.
