Alocasia macrorrhizos âBlack Stemâ keeps the huge glossy foliage of the species but lifts it on petioles so dark they can read nearly black, creating a built-in shadow contrast beneath every leaf. It is a fast upright grower that can reach 2â3 m indoors over time, so it works best as a structural plant in spacious interiors rather than on crowded shelves. The leaves are leathery and strongly architectural, which gives the cultivar a more disciplined look than many giant tropicals.
Bright indirect light, steady warmth, and an airy moisture-retentive substrate keep it pushing new leaves without root trouble. Let the upper layer dry slightly between waterings, maintain higher humidity, and use a heavy pot, because once established this plant combines real size with real weight.
