Gonialoe variegata, still widely sold as Aloe variegata, forms a compact triangular rosette striped in crisp white bands over deep green leaves, making it one of the clearest patterned succulents for sunny indoor positions. It stays relatively small, usually around 15 – 30 cm, and can eventually produce coral-pink tubular flowers on taller stalks, but the leaf pattern is the main attraction year round.
Like other dryland succulents, it needs strong light, a very fast-draining gritty substrate, and full drying between deep waterings rather than frequent moisture. Dry air suits it, cool bright winters can help with flowering, and its compact size makes it useful for collectors who want geometry, drought tolerance, and visible pattern without a sprawling plant.
