Avonia papyracea is one of those plants people stop to inspect, because from above it looks more like a cluster of tiny silver brushes than a succulent. The real body stays partly hidden below the surface while the visible stems are wrapped in papery white scales that reflect light and protect the plant in habitat. It stays miniature, grows slowly, and rewards restraint rather than attention, making it especially satisfying for collectors of caudiciforms and truly dry-adapted species.
In a very mineral mix with strong light and careful watering, it becomes an elegant little oddity that feels far rarer than its size suggests.
