Goeppertia insignis, known as rattlesnake plant, produces long lance-shaped leaves with wavy margins, dark elliptical markings, and rich purple undersides that show clearly as the blades lift and settle through the day. It forms a clump rather than a vine and can reach around 75 cm indoors, giving plenty of tropical character without taking up extreme floor space.
Bright, indirect light keeps the markings clearer, while direct sun quickly scorches the thinner leaf tissue. Keep the substrate evenly moist but airy, use softer water where possible, and aim for humidity above 60% with warm temperatures around 18–24 °C. It is considered non-toxic, making it easier to place in pet households, but like most Marantaceae it rewards consistency and reacts fast to drought, dry air, or hard water.
