Dracaena zeylanica forms upright dark green leaves with softer horizontal banding than many trifasciata cultivars, giving the plant a more natural, slightly less graphic look. Indoors it usually reaches about 60–120 cm, with slow to moderate growth from rhizomes and a sturdy clumping habit that tolerates neglect well. The foliage stays thick and leathery, making it suitable for homes and offices where a resilient vertical plant is needed.
Bright indirect light gives the best colour and shape, though lower light is tolerated, and watering should wait until the substrate has dried completely. A sharply draining succulent mix, temperatures around 18–26 °C, and dry indoor air are all acceptable.
Division or leaf cuttings can be used for propagation, and the plant should be kept away from pets because it contains saponins.
