Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' is a red Abyssinian banana grown for size, colour, and speed rather than fruit.
New leaves emerge flushed burgundy to red, the pseudostem stays richly tinted, and in strong light with regular moisture and feeding the plant can make impressive warm-season growth from a single central growing point.
It is not a shelf plant: bright exposure, steady warmth, regular water during active growth, and enough floor space are essential if you want the foliage to stay large and richly coloured. A large stable container with fertile but free-draining soil suits it better than a cramped pot, and the leaves can tear quickly in wind. In winter it either needs the brightest indoor space available with reduced watering or a cooler, almost dry rest. This is a specimen banana for bright rooms, glazed spaces, or summer patio display in a movable container.
