Epiphyllum guatemalense is a trailing epiphytic cactus with long wavy, twisting stems that give the plant a curled, almost ribbon-like look even when it is not in bloom. Mature plants can also produce night-opening white flowers followed by pink fruits, which adds seasonal interest to stems already distinctive enough to carry the plant on their own.
Unlike desert cacti, it prefers bright indirect light, moderate humidity, and an airy substrate that stays lightly moist rather than bone dry for long periods, though heavy wet soil still causes rot quickly. In a hanging basket or elevated pot the growth pattern is easiest to appreciate, and warm stable conditions help the stems stay firm, defined, and less prone to yellowing or collapse. It also values consistency.
