Goeppertia rufibarba 'Elgergrass' swaps broad prayer-plant leaves for long, narrow, velvety blades that rise in a fountain-like clump and show rich burgundy undersides when the foliage moves. That grassy, upright habit makes it especially useful where you want softness and motion without the visual spread of a broader Calathea-type plant. The plant is tactile too, with fine hairs that give the leaves a matte, almost suede-like finish rather than shine.
Like other members of the family, it wants consistency: lightly moist substrate, good humidity, filtered light, and stable warmth. Dry air, hard water, and irregular watering show up quickly as curl or browned edges.
For growers who enjoy Marantaceae movement but want a more vertical, fine-textured form, 'Elgergrass' is one of the most distinctive options, bringing height, texture, and colour contrast without needing oversized leaves.
