Heptapleurum actinophyllum 'Amate', still widely recognized under Schefflera, is a fast-growing indoor shrub or small tree selected for oversized glossy leaf umbrellas and a more upright habit than seed-grown plants. Each leaf is made up of broad leaflets arranged radially, which gives mature plants a strong vertical presence even before they gain much height.
Indoors it commonly reaches around 2–3 m if given bright indirect light, steady warmth, and watering after the upper 15–20% of the mix has dried. A coarse, draining substrate helps prevent yellowing from excess moisture, and pruning above a node can keep the outline denser and more balanced.
It tolerates average household conditions fairly well but contains calcium oxalates, so all parts should be kept away from pets.
