Kalanchoe thyrsiflora builds a dense basal rosette of flat, chalky grey-green leaves stacked in overlapping layers, with the margins colouring red when the plant receives strong direct sun. The rosette usually reaches about 30–60 cm, and on mature specimens a tall flower stalk can rise higher before the original rosette dies, leaving offsets to continue the plant. This monocarpic habit is part of its normal life cycle, not a sign of failure.
Give it full sun or the brightest window available, use a gritty, fast-draining succulent mix, and water only after the substrate has dried fully. Warm temperatures and low humidity suit it best, while overwatering is by far the fastest route to rot long-term. Pets should be kept away, as ingestion is considered toxic.
