Philodendron gigas is one of the large velvet climbers, producing long, dark green leaves with a satin surface, pale venation, and rich red-purple undersides that become more impressive as the plant gains height. It starts comparatively modestly, then turns into a bold vertical species if given a proper support and steady, humid conditions. Mature indoor leaves can exceed a metre under ideal culture, which puts it in a different scale class than most common philodendrons.
Bright, indirect light, watering after the top 3–5 cm of mix has dried, and a very airy substrate with bark, coir, and perlite suit it well. It prefers 18–27 °C and humidity between 60 and 80%.
Rare and critically endangered in habitat, it is best treated as a plant for patient growers who can give it stability and height.
