Piper methysticum 'Bright Eyes' is a compact ornamental cultivar of kava grown for broad, heart-shaped leaves traced with pale silver-green veins that seem to catch the light. The foliage is lightly puckered with a satin-like finish, and the plant forms an upright, shrubby structure rather than a twining vine, usually reaching around 40â80 cm with time. It suits larger pots, warm bright rooms, and enclosed tropical setups where the leaf pattern can be appreciated without the plant taking over the space.
Bright, filtered light keeps the venation clearer, while high humidity, consistent moisture, and temperatures around 22â28 °C support the best growth. Use a loose, organic-rich mix with bark or perlite for airflow, water often enough to keep the substrate lightly moist, and treat it as decorative rather than edible despite the species background.
