Polaskia chichipe is a branching tree-like cactus from central Mexico, valued for its upright trunk, ribbed columns, and mature canopy of arcing branches that give it a desert-tree silhouette rather than a simple single column. In nature it becomes very large, but in containers it can still reach around 2 m with enough light and time, making it one of the more architectural cacti available for long-term growing. The species can also produce small sweet edible fruits after flowering, which adds another layer of interest beyond the structure.
Full sun, very dry air, and a gritty free-draining substrate are essential, and the mix should dry fully between waterings. Because overwatering is the main risk, terracotta and conservative watering habits suit it well. This is a strong choice for growers who want a cactus with both form and real cultural history.
