Trachycarpus fortunei is a hardy fan palm with a fibrous trunk and pleated green fronds that give it a real palm silhouette in climates and indoor spaces where many tropical palms struggle. In a container it stays much smaller than its outdoor potential, but it still becomes a substantial long-term specimen with more architectural presence than most ordinary houseplants.
Bright light, well-draining soil, deep containers, and watering once the upper portion of the substrate has dried keep the roots healthier than constant dampness, especially in cooler conditions. It tolerates lower temperatures far better than many palms, though indoor plants still prefer stability, and the species is generally regarded as non-toxic to pets and people. It also values consistency.
