Zamioculcas zamiifolia is the classic ZZ plant, valued for glossy, symmetrical leaflets on upright stems that emerge from thick underground rhizomes built to store water. It stays composed for years, usually reaching about 60–100 cm indoors, and tolerates neglect, low light, and dry air better than most structural foliage plants. Bright indirect light brings stronger, faster growth, but the species usually remains stable even where light is only moderate.
Water only after the mix has dried completely, use a free-draining substrate, and avoid large pots of wet soil around the rhizomes, since overwatering is the main cause of decline. Division and leaflet propagation are possible but slow, and plant tissue contains calcium oxalate. Average household humidity is usually entirely sufficient.
