Platycerium bifurcatum is an epiphytic staghorn fern with two very different frond types: shield-like basal fronds that anchor and protect the plant, and long forked fertile fronds that arch outward like antlers. The grey-green surface is lightly fuzzy from protective trichomes, giving the plant a softer, sculptural look than many standard potted ferns. Because it naturally grows mounted or suspended, it works especially well on wood, cork, or in hanging baskets rather than in deep soil.
Bright, indirect light, humidity around 60–80%, and thorough soaking followed by full drainage keep it healthy without encouraging rot at the base. Brown spore patches on mature fertile fronds are normal, not disease.
This is a non-toxic fern valued mainly for vertical display, long life, and a clear architectural silhouette.
