Platycerium bifurcatum 'Netherlands' is a more compact cultivar of staghorn fern, combining shield-like basal fronds with long forked fertile fronds in a form that stays easier to manage indoors than larger standard plants. It can be mounted, grown in a basket, or kept in a loose potting setup, and the non-toxic habit makes it easier to place in homes with pets.
Bright, indirect light, regular soaking followed by good drainage, and humidity around 50–70% help it stay healthy, while direct sun quickly damages the grey-green fronds. Fertile fronds can still extend dramatically, but the overall plant remains tidier and more apartment-friendly than broader growing forms.
This cultivar is especially useful if you love the staghorn look but want something that works on a smaller board, basket, or vertical display indoors.
